Yeasty Gravy

September 26, 2010

Nutritional yeast is a great source of Vitamin B 12 that vegetarians and vegans need to be sure that they get enough of. So when it comes time to add a bit of flavor to veggies, burgers, or potatoes try flavoring these dishes with some nutritional yeast or yeasty gravy.

  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
  • 4-6 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 - 2 1/2 cups water, or veggie stock
  • sprinkles of cayenne, garlic, or paprika
  • 2-4 Tablespoons tamari

  1. Toast flour and nutritional yeast in a skillet/frying pan.
  2. Add olive oil (here’s perhaps a time when you might use some oil in your cooking!)
  3. Start whisking! Add, slowly, liquid, either veggie stock or water (preferably heated). Whisk fast!
  4. Sprinkle some cayenne, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.
  5. Add good tamari to taste. Whisk whisk!

Gravy should be glossy and velvety thick, easily coating and clinging to a spoon.YUM!!
